Afternoon Tea @ Bea's of Bloomsbury, Holborn, London

Three meringues: delicious coconut synergising wonderfully with the meringue that was wonderfully light and slightly chewy and sticky on the inside; the lush flavour of raspberry, painted oover anothermeringue, also similar in texture; a dusting of cocoa powder on the third meringue that was baked more and powdery on the inside.

Another trio of brownies: the standard chocolate version was good, with a level of fudginess that suited me just fine, and fairly good chocolate flavour (they use Valrhona); the praline choc version with a bit looser, the medium stickiness of the brownie interrupt but the nuts, that could have been more crunchy; finally a white chocolate version (a blondie) with a decent white chocolate flavour and not overly sweet, which white choc desserts tend to get.

The best thing about the choc cup cake (fairly moist, good crumb) was the wonderfully raspberry flavour in the buttery frosting.

The scone was ordinary; mine was a bit misshaped, perhaps rising on an angle, resulting in something that was more even baked in, without the fluffy nature of a more "normal" scone. Good but not above and beyond strawberry jam and clotted cream.

Basic earl grey tea, not bad for an afternoon tea.

A good rendition on the whole, the raspberry and coconut meringues and the raspberry frosting on the cupcake were the highlights. Scone was slightly disappointing. Not a bad deal at roughly £8 iirc. Their website says that on Sundays, their afternoon tea includes sandwiches and go for £13 iirc. Very good baking, but not as good as the baking at St James Hotel and Club, although the latter charges £22 for their afternoon tea (with more food).
