Afghan Grill in Edison

I finally got to eat at the Afghan Grill in Edison (1700 Oak Tree Road, Edison, NJ 08817; (732) 767-1262). The food was excellent, the service attentive and it was a wonderful dining experience.

While the restaurant didn't have my favorite dishes, Kabuli Pilau and Kadu Bouranee (pumpkin dish), my boyfriend and I enjoyed what we did get. Diners start off with hot towels and a plate of crudites. We had an appetizer of grease-free boulanee (fried dumplings with chicken-also available with vegetables). Our entrees came in metal dishes with their own little fires under them keeping them warm. I had a lamb stew with a spinach gravy. My boyfriend had one of the two beef dishes-beef marinated in saffron and grilled. His dish came with greens, onions, and scallions.

We also ordered a la carte naan (puffy bread baked perfectly) and pilau (rice with saffron). I indulged with dessert, homemade mango ice cream with walnut topping. It was a little more expensive than we thought it would be but definitely worth the money. There are plenty of vegetarian dishes available.
