advice re: "stick" blender

I used a stick blender for the first time in England this fall and was really impressed: it pureed a huge pot of soup perfectly and in short order. Since I love pureed veggie soups but hate the hassle of transferring the soup in batches to my food processor, I immediately put one on my Xmas list and my mom got me the Cuisinart.

I tried it out last night and I was really disappointed: I must have spent 10 minutes pureeing my soup and it still had chunks in it.

Is it that the Cuisinart isn't as powerful as the Braun, or was one or the other of my experiences a fluke? The model she got me has all the attachments which I really don't need, since they just duplicate other appliances I already have.

Should I try and take it back and exchange it, or would I be just as unhappy with a different model?
