Advice for Aspiring Food Critic?

Lindsay B. | Feb 18, 2002 01:29 PM

I've decided to apply to be the food critic for my college newspaper. I gather that several posters are food writers, including the Alpha hound. Do you food writers and food readers have any advice to offer a newbie? What do you consider marks of a good review? What are some strategies for making a review seem more like a narrative and less like a formula?

I realize that these are very broad questions. I'm hoping to stimulate discussion about excellence in food writing.
