Advice on where to take 2 sets of parents?

Megan | Apr 7, 200508:48 PM

My SO's parents AND my parents are staying with us for Memorial Day weekend. They get along great and share our love of food and wine. We have all met up on the east coast where the 4 of them live, but all 6 of us have never been in L.A. at the same time. I am the planner of the group, so it's up to me to put the dinners together.

They arrive Fri night - we will either cook (they get in late) or get something local (we are in Silver Lake) like Il Capriccio.

I am looking for something for Sat. night. Other than AOC, which I think is not right for this dinner, my fav restaurant in L.A. is Angelini, but when we were there this wkend I realized there's just too much noise/hustle and bustle - I think it's great for 4, but not 6. At least not this crew.

I have 2 ideas so far - very diff't:
Lucques - neither has been there, and the ambience in the front room seems ideal. But I have not been there in about a year, and the last time the food did not knock me out.

Another part of me thought of taking them to Casa Bianca. I know that sounds crazy, but my parents adore great pizza and think it would be fun and take the pressure off the wallets. But I'm not sure that his parents are as into pizza as we are.

Other ideas? If not CB, I'm thinking nice but not over the top expensive, so no Melisse or Bastide. The next tier pricewise is fair game though. I think I'm in a restaurant rut b/c I have not been anywhere new that I loved in a long, long while, so perhaps I am missing something.

As an aside, we will be in Santa Ynez on Sunday and will eat at Brothers at Mattei's Tavern, which for me knocks out Saddle Peak and possibly Josie. I also need to figure out where to eat on Memorial Day (Mon.), which should be more casual than Sat. and Sun.

During my parents' previous visits, we have eaten at AOC, Angeli Caffe, Zax (gone), Blair's, and Josie. They loved all of them, though Blair's was too noisy for them the night we went.

We have taken his parents to Saddle Peak, Blair's, Zax, AOC, and Il Capriccio. All were hits.]

Sorry for the long post. Really want to get this right! Thanks in advance.
