adventures in long beach

I wrote down all the lovely suggestions and then promptly lost them in my hell-pit of a car. Got on an Internet cafe and looked up Aroma DiRoma and was sent to an address - 626 Quincy - which was quite residential and quite restaurant-less. Driving back to the concert managed to spot Jamaica Grill and went.

Nice place. Totally empty when I went in, at 7 on a Friday. Friendly folks. I chatted the owner up, told him an acquaintance had brought some jerk pork to a party.

"You mean Kriss?" says the owner. "He eats here all the time. Say hi."

Had oxtail stew. Alright. Intense, gamey-sour, oxtail flavor, almost uncut with any other flavors, and a gummy, gooey, unappetizing, mucus-y sauce. Tasted a little old, like it'd been stewed a while ago and had sat around and hadn't improved.

Nowhere near as good as the glory of the jerk pork Kriss brought to the chowfiesta from this place.

What say you, Kriss? Do you think this was an aberration, or do I not have a taste for Jamaican oxtail stew?

Thanks all, for the suggestion.

After the show, I went driving at midnight to find much-vaunted Cambodian nightclubs. Came up empty. Where's that drag again?
