The Admiralty

It does seem strange posting on here given the extra ordinary circumstances, but given that I have had both good news and very ( very bad ) news today, I take solace in the phrase of someone much wiser than me

"in the routine we find comfort in the mundane we find our companion"

I went with Robin to The Admiralty tonight. it has received renewed good reviews and we thought it worth a try

Let's start by saying the room is the single worst dining space either of us had ever seen. A Puke yellowy orange, cavernous and brightly lit

The food however was excellent. An amuse of foamed melon and orange was fresh and cleansing. Starters of a ballotine of fois grois with a fig compote were over chilled but of exemplary provenance and main courses of duck ( both confit leg and breast ) and monk fish were very good.

The real problem was that the bill for two ( some £120 without dessert or coffee ) made this an event place and it was really a non event place.

Now this is not part of the Peyton Group ( at least I think ) I can't see it lasting a month in this new guise

Service was good, but having such good food and service in such a room was like putting a ribbon around a cow pat.

Thankfully No1 The Aldwych was a short walk away for a good post dinner drink and a cigar

But, there are far more important things in life.

Bless you all

Simon & Robin
