hi all, i am eating shrimp dumpling soup from full kee right now and just had to express my appreciation to this board. full kee is 2 blocks from my office and i am now taking full advantage! also for my lunch today is the chicken w/ scallops with a spicy, gingery and sweet thin sauce.
but that shrimp dumpling soup, wow. even the broth is good! homemade and not really salty!
i would like to contribute some of my own favorites in return.

in my neighborhood, adams morgan, i like to go to ghana cafe on 18th st. it's comfort food, soft and in big piles. i always get the veg sampler, with rice w/ beans, rice with a good tomato-y sauce with onions, and the best part, this spinach with egusi on top. what is egusi, i don't know. it's brown and powdery. some sort of ground nut maybe? the spinach is never overcooked and so delicious.
their plaintains are good (kind of oily sometimes). also good chicken, fish and goat (i'm not brave enough). african beer. the owner is so friendly, usually a little on the spacey side (if you know what i mean) and service is going to be slow. i've learned not to fight it. his wife cooks, and his two cute little boys run around barefoot and play with the customers' watches. they love the watches.

also i like tryst on 18th street for the dips, esp. red pepper feta, with excellent warm french bread. it's quite the scene. and i'm quite a scenester.

el tamarindo is where i go for good margaritas and the authentic salvadoran experience. the tex-mex menu items are nothing special but the breakfast stuff is not bad, esp, the guacamole omelette. don't forget the horchata!

and has anyone ventured to mt. pleasant? at haydee's, the yuca con chicharron was heavy - the vinegary cabbage salad sprinkled on top made it better. but it has an all-spanish music jukebox, que rico! and i ate at the little giant diner last week. now THAT is a diner. forget the tryst diner with the $4 french fries. little giant is dirty, cheap, bad coffee and the two russian guys are SO RUDE. i recommend it highly for no frills eggs, toast, pancakes and such. it's very "no coke/pepsi" kind of place.
