Ad and Sign Says Vidalia, But Onion Stickers Don't

therealdoctorlew | May 6, 201804:00 PM     9

I look forward to new crop Vidalia onions. Years ago, I had to order by mail, getting too many and paying a lot. but now stores advertise and sell "Vidalia Onions." The sign over the bin says "Vidalia Onions" plus the price. But the stickers on the onions just say "Sweet Onion" or some other non-Vidalia euphemism. Some even said "Chile." Rarely there is a real Vidalia sticker. And the print is always so small that it is nearly illegible.

Has "Vidalia" gone the way of other lost names, being turned into an expensive way to say "sweet" whether or not the actual onions are actually sweet?
