A while back I mentioned in a Luka's post how much I love their bread, and wondered who the supplier was. Another hound told me it was Acme, so when I went to the FB market today I checked out the store, and sure enough there it was: Pain Epi. It is basically a medium dense white bread in a unique form: each loaf is composed of rolls that are leaves on a branch; each roll can be easily torn off of the main 'branch'.
Once torn off, the roll looks all the world like a Mexican bolillo, and, here is why I like it so much: it tastes like one also! Well, not exactly, but these simple yet delicious rolls come as close as to the bolillos I ate every day in Mexico City as I have found in the US....
The loaf, which has about six 'leaves' or rolls, is $1.75, making it (IMO) one of the better priced Acme breads...
One leaf made a great sandwhich this afternoon when spread with some Red Hawk cheese and cut up early girl tomato! Yumm!
p.s. The yellow peaches at Frog Hollow were also good today...
