ace fish tacos today at CAFE EL PORTAL

we wandered in here while dodging the san gennaro festival crowds and i had the best fish tacos i have had so far in new york.

they used fresh shredded grouper today, but i think the fish changes daily. no fried breaded fish here. two soft corn tortillas per taco and you get two tacos on the platter. good chopped tomato/cilantro mixed in with the fish, but of course never enough of that for me. very tasty. i had one lime juice only added and one with the lime, red and green salsa. both salsas were very good as well. the platter had fresh black beans and a 'dirty' rice that included bits of corn and peas. the tacos de pescado platter is $5.50.

i washed mine down with water and a tamarindo jarrito soda. my spouse had a burrito de nopales aka a cactus burrito that was pretty nice too. fyi--they have beer and wine, but no liquor so no margs.

CAFE EL PORTAL is located on elizabeth street between spring and kenmare. go for it fish taco fans!
