Ace Bakery sold for presumable millions (Toronto/GTA)

Interesting, although it makes sense considering their enthusiastic expansion in the past few years. I've always defended them as the best "major label" bakery in the GTA, but admit I fear for the future if they're giving up control. With those two at the helm, the quality didn't really suffer, save some crisping issues easily solved with a home oven. They always insisted on using the same grade of flours, the same hand-held approach whenever possible. I think they understood this because they understood good bread.

It's the boogeyman of any successful business: maintaining quality on an expanding scale. One could argue that in selling the company, they are no longer targeting the artisan bread buyer, but rather the less choosy supermarket mom. As a member of the former group, it's disappointing, but thankfully there are other options...
