How accurate are the calories shown on food products?

Although im sure by this point Coke has a good idea of the grams of sugar and fat in its product, I sometimes wonder about the accuracy of some of the local products I find in gas stations and grocery markets in my area. Two items I bought recently in LA could not have had the negligible abount of calories and sugar listed: a individual size rich "Bean-pie" in seven elleven said that it contained about 100 calories and 6 grams of sugar, and a sweet strawberry banana soy drink in USC's cafateria claimed it had only 4 grams when sugar was its second ingredient!!

It seems that listing fallacious numbers would be an unacceptable liability with diabetics and people watching their weight!! Anyone have any knowlege or input?
