How far will you go to accommodate guests?

I was just slammed on another board for mentioning that I realized I couldn't extend a last minute invitation to some (picky) friends to join us for dinner at our house because to do so would mean reworking my entire menu.

Me: (thinking) - it would be nice to ask X and Y to join us because they have a lot in common with A and B.

Me: (realizes) - but they don't eat anything I'm preparing. (Grilled lamb with sauce to be determined, couscous, roasted vegetables) Why does everything have to get so complicated?

Do you ever just put your foot down and stop inviting people who you know won't go with the flow and eat what you have planned? I would like to enjoy dinner with our guests and not feel like I'm running a catering department.

Am I nuts? Or are there certain friends you should only meet in restaurants? Give it to me straight....
