So the nearest Starbucks to me is in a NJ Turnpike rest area. I'm obviously not going to pay a toll to get there, so I looked at a satellite image and lo and behold there's an unmarked access road to get into it from town. I decided to check it out, and there's no signs saying not to enter. I've now snuck in and out of it twice to get coffee, but now lost my nerve because while there's no signs saying not to enter, there's also nothing welcoming me to use it. I would have never noticed it if not for Google Earth. Any idea if these are restricted for official use?
Some of those roads are access in and out of Commuter Parking lots at the Rest Areas.
I would say if there's no signage you are fine. Keep in mind I'm far more criminal than lawyer so take my advice for what it's worth.
I used to live right there. I'm not ashamed to say I used that road several times to hit the Roy Rogers that was there.
I guessing your favorite barista also uses the access road to get to and from work as do the others who work at the various restaurants.
Well I drove by today and it could not be any less ambiguous. Not only did they put up a DO NOT ENTER and a ONE WAY sign, but there's also a gate blocking the right side of the road. I'm guessing this was in response to an accident.
There's one by Belmar/Shark River, I was told that people taking commuter buses park that way.
(I can't open the other replies so maybe this is repetitive)
I know people who work in that rest area, and the service road is only for authorized vehicles only. I.E people who work there. There isn't much parking back there to begin with, and when you park back there it forces employees to park on that service road in the grass along the side of the road.
The turnpike used to leave the gate unlocked, but ever since the Super Bowl at Metlife Stadium they kept it locked for "security" reasons. There are 5-6 different businesses in that service area that use the parking lot.
