(Aburiya) Raku review

Raku is one of the restaurants on this board that is going to be hard to live up to its billing. The praise so far has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic. So where do I stand? Pretty close to the "overwhelmingly enthusiastic" side. This is a great restaurant, no doubt. It is also one that inspires you. Very few restaurants in Las Vegas inspire. And when I say inspire, I mean dishes like foie gras steamed savory egg custard or Sea Urchin and Seaweed with Soup. They are not amazingly complex in ingrediant structure just complex in flavor. Everything we had was truly great. And if this is any indication, the Kobe Beef Filet w/wasabi was one of my least favorite (the others I was with would disagree w/that statement but all would agree that I am about as freaky as it get when it comes to food!). The house made tofu special this evening was a Agendas Tofu which was a deep fried sort of tofu in a miso-ish broth. OMG was this delicious and the texture of the tofu was ethereal. The Blue Fin sashimi, both regular and Toro was excellent. I cannot sing the praises of this restaurant enough. My only real gripe would have been the service. It was super friendly but not the swiftest. I do mind size and location as it will keep it from getting too crowded. It is just far enough away to keep the crowds away and just the right size as if it were any bigger it would undoubtedly lose its cozy, exclusive feel.

It is interesting as I found this restaurant through one of the sous chef's at Bar Charlie. I asked Sean (for those that have been to Bar Charlie, he is the younger guy who is covered w/tattoos) what was his favorite restaurant in all of Las Vegas and without hesitation he said Raku. Interesting as the cooking style while not the same has some commonality.
