I went to Japan a few months ago and had a Ten-don (Tempura Shrimp over Rice in special sauce) that was absolutely fantastic. It had eggs in it and the soy sauce seemed to be perfectly sweet and tasty. I also just came back from my spring break vacation in Paris and found a place that sells the same type of Ten-Don. Again, the tempura was crispy, just the right amount of seasoning, red ginger on the side..etc etc.
I've been looking for the perfect Ten-Don here in NYC without any success. I dropped by a few pseudo-japanese restaurant that appears to be authentic from the outside, but then you realize that the people inside either speak Korean or Chinese. Moreover, I cannot be more displeased with the quality of their tendon. It was abominable...soggy tempura...the sauce...was just standard tempura sauce...and god knows...it was disgusting. I don't know when or where I will be able to find....the donburi i ate in Paris in Tokyo.....I don't know if i'm just going to the wrong places...but it seems like it's simply impossible to find a good restaurant that sells quality don-buri here in the City. If you have any suggestions...I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much.
