Absinthe Report

Two of us went to Absinthe for dinner Friday night. We started with a Pacific Oyster sampler, very good, fresh oysters but not as good as the ones at Zuni. I still refuse to give too much credit to a kitchen for their oysters since all they really do is pick which ones to order and store them properly, but the supplier is doing a good job at both places.

We also had the foie Gras, it was seared on a flat iron grill and was very good. I tend to prefer warm foie gras rather than the cold terrine style (personal preference perhaps). Still not as good as the open flame grilled version I had at Limon, but it was very good.

We split a Ribeye. We asked for it rare, and it came rare just like we wanted. The steak itself was a good cut of meat and seasoned well to enhance the flavor without overpowering. The highlight for me were the lentils served with the steak, I've never actually noticed good lentils anywhere except Indian restaurants in the past, but these were damn good. We also had an order of fries, I think we got the bottom of the bag because they were all really small, pretty minor complaint.

I'll go back without a doubt.
