Abiquiú: Ghost Ranch, Bodes General Store, Flourchild's Bakery, Dar al Islam Mosque

Melanie Wong | Dec 15, 201912:20 AM     4

Following breakfast in La Espanola https://www.chowhound.com/post/breakf..., I hurried toward Abiquiú and Ghost Ranch.

The Georgia O'Keeffe Landscape Tour at Ghost Ranch would start at 9:00am. I recommend it highly. There is a Dining Hall on the Ghost Ranch property, but I did not want to wait for it to open at noon for lunch. Has anyone tried it?

Heading out after the tour, I stopped at Bodes General Store to buy a beverage for the road. Organic tea was a good choice for hydration in this arid climate.

The kitchen at Bodes turns out baked goods and made-to-order hot items for lunch. Grab-and-go lunches from the case are available too.

Bodes also offered a photo opportunity of a horsewoman leading pack camel.

A little down the road, Flourchild's Bakery had been open for seven months.

The owner's providing fresh baked goods and a much needed community gathering place. I was sorry to read that a medical emergency has forced them to close temporarily.

Breads and pastries all looked very tempting.

The sticky bun and slice of lemon cake that I bought for later were both very good. Flourchild's is definitely worth a stop when it returns.

Last stop in Abiquiu was Dar al Islam mosque. I did not have time for a tour or to go inside and only took a quick peek around the grounds. Winds were already approaching 50 mph and I was anxious to get to my next stop. The view toward Mecca was spectacular and some day I will be back to see more and enjoy the serenity of the site.
