888, just OK this time...

Will Owen | Aug 21, 200507:01 PM

After our sterling experience at 888 Seafood in Rosemead several weekends ago, we talked Pa-in-law and the rest of that side of the family into trying it out today. The last time was on a Saturday, this was Sunday - what a difference a day makes! At 11 am the parking lot was jammed, and of course we had two vehicles to park, so we dropped off the passengers and circled and circled...then joined them in the crowd at the door for another 45 minutes or so. Finally got a smallish table back in Siberia, next to the take-out facility and right in the line of traffic from three directions. When the carts started coming by, we got a number of good items right away, but found their visits to be spotty and sparse, and the selections to be slimmer than last time - being clear across the room from the kitchen might have had something to do with it. In addition, on three occasions a cart with more interesting stuff (which we refer to as "You no like", but which we DO like) zipped right on by us without the slightest much for those yummy-looking chicken feet!

I felt a bit let down here, nor did I think the dumplings were up to their previous level of goodness - I found the wrappers to be thicker and chewier than I remembered. However, I seemed to be alone in my disappointment: everyone else was delighted with the place and the food, and Pops was even more delighted with a $60 tab for all eight of us. We did agree that our next visit en famille would probably be at 10 am or so on a Saturday...
