Based on CH recs , I had bought a coupon, and we used it tonight. I don't think I've ever complained on CH about pricing except for Oishii II a few years ago, and until tonight I have never felt gypped in an ethnic restnt in Boston. But Saray was overpriced and the food was not well prepared. Eggplant salad was bland and showed little evidence of the purported parsley and red pepper. The $12 Spinach a la turca was a narrow ring of spinach onion mixture around a pool of yoghurt sauce. Zucchini pancakes were the one delicious item but they were drowned in said same yoghurt sauce.Lentil soup lacked any spark. Salmon filled grape leaves were an an intriguing concept but the salmon was grossly overcooked ( like canned salmon ) and this after I asked for rare. Sultan's Delight (which we love at Oleana)had about 2 ou. of grilled lamb cubes in a nice tomatoey sauce surrounded by a bizarrely off-tasting pool of curdled eggplant sauce that I could not eat, for $16. For amount of lamb, with the plus of added vegetables and starch, we would have been much better off with 2 $8 lamb kabob sandwiches from nearby Azama or Boston Kabab Company. A nice softly lit room, friendly but very slow service, and too many disappointments to ever return. sigh. Don't waste your money here; for much tastier Turkish, drive to Istanbul'lu in Teele Sq., Somerville, or for the very best, drive 20 minutes and treat yourself to Oleana near Kendall Sq.
