I’ve done some research, but would appreciate some final pointers. Sorry it's long!
We fly into Kona late the night before and will be staying in a vintage airstream for 2 nights in Hawi. Planning to explore Hawi during the day but didn’t see much. Any lunch recs? Bamboo Restaurant & Gallery?
For our Wednesday night dinner, looks like The Blue Dragon is out since they’re only open TH-S. Leaning towards The Fish & the Hog since Merrimans is a chain. We’d be down to do drinks and apps at one and then scoot over to the other if they’re both worth it. Anything else in Waimea?
We’re driving along route 19 down to Volcano. First pit stop will be TEX Drive In, then late lunch at Cafe 100 in Hilo.
Our cabin has a hot tub, we might be wiped, and dining options in Volcano seem limited. We also have a kitchen. Would stopping at the Island Naturals Pahoa Market & Deli and cooking dinner make sense? Kilauea Lodge’s menu looks pretty meh and we have thai all the time so Thai Thai isn’t appealing. Any must-buy local ingredients we can whip up into something easily?
Will be packed exploring the National Park before our 7:30pm flight out of the Hilo airport to Oahu. Light breakfast at Cafe Ohia. We’ll probably snack on things between hikes, but will want an early dinner in Hilo before our flight.
This discussion was helpful, but mentioned most places were closed since it was Sun/Mon: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/9870...
Any other dinner Hilo recs?
Will be posting a separate request about our 4 days in Oahu. Everyone’s trip postings have been extremely helpful to whittle down an amazing selection, while remaining realistic since this is a vacation after all! Thanks in advance.
