Paul's (Sherman Oaks/Tarzana) has been a family favorite for special occasions. We were a little leery when they first changed their name to "August Chris," but were assured only the name had changed. The food was the same and our fears were assuaged.

I called AC (Sherman Oaks) the other day to make a reservation and the name had changed again! They are now "Le Petit Jacques Cafe." The woman who answered the phone insisted the chef and the menu were still the same.

Not true. The menu may be the same but there is a new owner/chef; formerly of Le Petit Bistro.

There were two of us. We shared a pear salad with arugala, gorgonzola and candied pecans. The salad was good, although the dressing wasn't as tasty as I remembered. They forgot to add the pecans, the waiter brought us a small dish of them to sprinkle on our food.

My friend was dreaming of the whitefish, her favorite dish. They had whitefish on the menu but prepared very differently; crusted and in a brown sauce. Decent, but not half as good. A disappointment. I had a pork medallion in a wine reduction with mushrooms that was very good. The meat was tender, the sauce was excellent.

The restaurant was crowded. A lot of the new owner/chef's friends from Le Petit Bistro had made the move over to "Jacques" and his wife was working the room. I'd like to see them offer a better selection of wines by the glass (I just don't drink that much.) I'd also like them to tell the truth on the phone about the new owner/chef. I'd be willing to give them another try after they've settled in.
