I was trapped today to meet some companions at Light and Healthy Sushi in Tarzana - way off my beat. Since the main feature is all you can eat for lunch at $19.95, the bar was fairly bustling at noon. Since I am becoming a sushi snob as well as a snob in a few other things, I still wanted to be fair. It was hard. The main mercy was that although the fish was only so so quality - it was not put on a mountain of rice, in fact, the rice was the little dab variety. I agonized through a few rolls that looked like tired caterpillers; asked for the usual yellowtail offerings and was only delighted by the smoked eel - that was lip smacking good. Otherwise the surrounding company were all guys who were piling into the trough for all you can eat in an hour. Nice service otherwise with plenty of tea top up offerings.
Was it sushi - sort of. Was it edible - well I made it through lunch. Would I return - no. Next time I go to the dentist I'll go back to Patagonia, the Argentine restaurant on Ventura west of Tampa. THAT was worth another visit.
