got to the south end last night with the SO to primarily go to Red Sea Addis. i forgot how many good places there are in this area!
we started at B&G with a dozen oysters and wine. the 'tuesday night grill' was just getting going when we left, is this something to check out?
we then fed the meter again and got a seat at the bar at Sibling Rivalry, mango mojito for me, a 542 for the grrl. both very good. this was also the first time i had actually seen their menu and was very impressed with the offerings. prices seemed very good and the selections were very interesting. do the descriptions and quality of ingredients match expectations here?
at Red Sea Addis my SO was (initially) put off by the serving style, i.e. communal dinng, but rapidly warmed up to it. we just got the special combo and liked all that was presented. we also enjoyed the tusker and harrah beers. we were wondering if the kitchen here will alter the level of spice/heat? what we had seemed pretty tame, but very flavorfull.
it was after 8pm so we could leave the meter alone and we took seats a the butcher shop. we just wanted a glass of wine but were intrigued by the gazpacho wich was strawberry and cucumber. it was really, really good. not a strong berry flavor but the fruit did leave a great sweet finish. also the guacomole on the bottom was a great surprise. we got some sausages for the grill and left very happy.
now i am left wondering what else is in this block. we have plans this weekend to go to hammersly's for the roast chicken but would love to hear of any other spots within walking distance, especially hidden places or serious ethnic eateries.
