I-5 between Sacramento and LA

Any recommendations for food along this drive? The last conversation I could find here was 7 years old! I’m not looking for fancy, just good and fresh for a lunch break on this awful drive. Maybe a food truck? Taco stand? Any suggestions appreciated!

The search engine is messed up right now.

This thread from 2016 might help you out, don't think things have changed much. Your opportunities to get off the I-5 and finding something decent to eat are Los Banos, Buttonwillow and Bakersfield.

Last month I took Hwy 99 from Sacramento south because I hate the 5.

I agree with my ersatz sister that 99 is a better way to go through the valley. More places to stop and pee if you need to, more interesting scenery (admittedly, I-5 sets a low bar), and more diverse dining options. IME, it adds little to no extra time unless you get held up by traffic in Stockton, Modesto, or Fresno, and even then those traffic induced delays aren't usually too bad.

I'm partial to Basque places in Fresno and Bakersfield, and if I'm going through Fresno on the right day/time, I like to stop at Kogetsu-Do for mochi (especially the seasonal fruit ones).

(Melanie Wong, since when were you from LA???)
