On Christmas Eve, we stopped for the second year for lunch at Cecilia's, a small Mexican restaurant specializing in food from Durango, on Main St. in Los Banos. We came across this place last year when Woolgrower's was closed for the holiday week.
The food is really basic and tasty. This year I had the machaca con huevos and it was some of the best I've had. My brother had the chorizo and eggs which was also very good. Last year we had burritos and tacos - they have a wide range and some nice birria (the only kind I remember trying last year).
The service is really warm and friendly. Seems like one of those places where all the customers are locals, lots of chat and gossip. Many people in to pick up their tamale orders. We ordered one off the menu and it was very good.
Anyway, small detour off I-5 and well worth it considering the roadside options between LA and the Bay Area. Going north we get off at the Mercy Hot Springs exit and then get back to I-5 via 152.
