5 Dudley - Report

Bonzo | Sep 9, 2002 01:22 PM

I had been wanting to try this place forever and I finally went on on friday night with two other couples. We had a great meal and a great time.

We were greeted with a smile and seated right away even though the other 4 people in our party had not arrived. We were given the option of "ice" not "tap" water with no pressure to order a bottle of the fancy stuff.

The waiters tell you what the dishes are - there is no written menu. We ordered two casear salads, a sardine dish, a french onion soup and a brie crostini with avocado. They were all excellent, especially the casear which was made from whole leaves of romaine stacked like a log cabin. The only thing missing were croutons (which I happen to love).

I have to admit that I didn't pay attention to what everyone else was having because I was too focused on the roasted chicken with wasabi mashed potatoes in front of me. It was delicious, moist and flavorful with a little heat from the spices. It also came with a sauce which blended perfectly with the other flavors.
Everyone at the table raved about their main courses as well.

Dessert was a mint and white chocolate creme brulee and a cherry strudel with coconut ice cream. I wasn't blown away by either dessert, but the rest of the meal was so good I barely noticed.

The wine list was interesting and very reasonable.

Between the great food and the warm service, 5 Dudley just became one of my favorite places.
