4th Annual Guild Raising, 2/18, Forestville (Sonoma County)

Melanie Wong | Jan 15, 201710:52 AM

"Every February, the statewide Farmers Guild community converges at Sonoma County’s Shone Farm (recently ranked the #1 college farm in the nation). From San Diego to the North Coast, hundreds of California farmers, ranchers and local food advocates spend a day sharing skills, exploring hot topics in sustainable agriculture and working to build a united voice on behalf of family farms.

This year's workshops and activities include intergenerational farmer exchanges, an exploration of CSA's in the age of produce box schemes, food safety rules primers, soil health demos and much more. As part this year's “Intergenerational Exchange” theme, we’re excited to officically announce our new merger with Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF). With nearly 40 years of experience working on behalf of family farms, a new partnership between our two organizations will help unite generations; wisdom and enthusiasm; lessoned learned and what’s possible for the future of food and agriculture in California.

And like every year, our event concludes with the always popular Agrarian Lovers Ball. With Valentine’s Day still in the air, we open up the doors to our broader community with locally-sourced food and live music to celebrate our farmers and all those who love them. The night culminates with the bestowal of our annual Farmers Guild Awards, recognizing contributions to a stronger local food economy, food justice and a new generation of agrarians.
