New to Chowhound, but assiduous reader of the forum. And thanks to people like Kaleo, TJ, Betsy and others, I became a total copper addict.
I found this small saute pan at a flea market this morning. It's unmarked. It looked nice, thick, sturdy and as heavy as Sysyphus' boulder. What I assumed was tin looked quite fine, so I thought it would be ideal for sauteeing stuff and doing weightlifting at the same time.
Once home, I cleaned the crap out of it and took some measurements: 20cm diameter. The thickness is somewhere between 3.5 and 4mm (I'll do some proper measurements once I get a caliper). But the inside lining turned out to be stainless steel. There are scratches all over the place, but I can still see the typical circular brush marks. They're faint, but they are present. And the magnet test returned positive results: it's stainless steel.
A lot of questions come to my mind:
1- How is this even possible ? I mean, I've always heard that there are no +3mm bimetal pans.
2- Who in the world may have made this pan ?
3- (Nostalgic) Whytheydontmakemlikethisanymore ?
