3 places that are totally worth falling off your diet for: Border Grill, Mirabell & Casa del Mar

If there is a more gorgeous, comfortable room in the united states please list it here – I can’t imagine a better place to hang and have appetizers and drinks – skip the bar wines and get something off the dining list – stolpman syrah @ 40 and the tandem peloton blend @ 55 go down real easy with the cheese plate – the tandem folks come from flowers and the peloton is super yummy and goes with all sorts of stuff the hotel serves – if you have never been you are missing a real treat. http://www.hotelcasadelmar.com/

Mirabell does a version of there slow cooked Angus boneless beef short rib with a rum spiked BBQ sauce, on sweet potato mash & herbed slaw dish, that has half the order of short rib and they put in some bacon wrapped shrimps on a skewers – this puppy is so good I have it on preset on my nav system. The place has two distinct crowds, the bar area is like the star wars bar and the dining room is very romantic – if you do as a duce ask for table #3. Place has been in business for 35+ years for a reason – great sat/sun brunch – excellent, caring service.

If there was ever a place to share stuff the border grill has to be it – some of the mains are expensive but more than enough for 3-4 people. I would start out with the Border Classics, 2 green corn tamales, 2 plantain empanadas, and 2 chicken panuchos and have them modify it for the # in your party – for the mains to share I would go with the Sautéed Rock Shrimp, with toasted ancho chiles, slivered garlic, parsley, and lime served with braised greens and rice and the Cochinita Pibil, achiote marinated pork slow roasted in banana leaf with grilled onions, orange, and cinnamon served with white rice, black beans, and roasted plantains. Drinks are easy, there is lots to choose from but I always like the Border Shakers margaritas with fresh squeezed lime served in 2 martini glasses with either Herradura Reposada or Herradura Silver – the silver version is $ 10 and you can get 3+ drinks per shakers – the place is out of this world and tons of fun. http://www.bordergrill.com/BGSM/bgsm.htm
