Had a tasty steak taco at Tapatia. I hope I'm getting the name of this East Broadway (Somerville) Mexican place right, just a few doors from the Brazilian place Gaucho's. For just $1.50 they piled on every extra including guacamole into a nice flour tortilla. I was the only non-Hispanic there and the popular choice was huge bowls of soup. As far as the taco goes, I'm no expert and I was awfully hungry but it tasted pretty darn good. And Gaucho's smelled great, will have to try it.
Tried the Jerusalem Cafe on Mass Ave. by MIT where I got a huge lamb kebob sandwich for $4.75. It was just okay and the lettuce had seen better days. Their meals were only about $6.50 so I'd be curious to try something with the sides. But it wasn't really a place you want to hang out at, one pregnant woman cooking, taking orders (altho I was the only one there) and I think I wiped out the cash register giving her a $20.
Zesto's has opened on Center St. in JP where the Friendly Eating Place was for years. It's a little more welcoming with gold walls and photos, not quite typical pizza joint decor. Plus the menu goes slightly beyond the typical subs and pizza with some different combinations. Just tried a small steak & cheese ($4.25) which was only okay. Boring roll, dry super chopped steak. I'll give it another shot for their different items but the Ideal a block down seems to do the basics as well and for less money.
