3 Brothers- what's the big deal?

CLEO | Jun 21, 200308:28 PM

Finally went to 3 Brothers (in Milwaukee) expecting something really great & unusual...the atmosphere is dingy and LOUD, the food was ok, but: Appetizers were few and not particularly Serbian or in any way unique (we has a serbian app which was salami, plain tomato wedges, olives, some potato salad and cheese which could have been a serbian type or a mild Feta). Salad was some limp romaine, tomato, and very oily dressing. The Burek was awesome, but the suckling pig was just some meat on a plate with leaden dumplings with no discernible seasoning, some veg, and some admittedly excellent saurkrauty stuff. There were not many menu items that seemed exciting to me...stuffed peppers, chicken paprika, goulash... (they were out of a few things that I might have ordered instead of the pig). Being Milwaukee, the portions were enormous but the china looked like something from a garage sale or the salvation army. And, they only had one kind of beer! And no music! And the windows were dirty and the tables were all different and my chair was wobbly but they looked like they all might be wobbly! And (this is a pet peeve) our dirty app & salad plates sat in front of us until the next course came out; since we had a burek this was a long time. I love home cooking and would probably go back- but the way this place is hyped- I can just say I'm glad I never recommended it to out of towners! Even in a wacky "only in Milwaukee" way it is not a place to impress guests or for a special dinner. In my opinion.
