2nd Annual Laboratorio "Blowout" 14 Course Dinner ON 10/22-Waiting List

On Friday, October 22nd we will once again take over Roberto Donna's Laboratorio with an incredible study in excess and over indulgence: 14 courses. The "normal" Laboratorio dinner is a total of 12 courses. Last November was the first of the two "blowout" dinners with the other at Maestro in February of this year. Laboratorio only has 30 seats; for this dinner we will have "communal" seating at three or four tables. Both dinners have been remarkable in the spirit of camaraderie as well as opportunities to experience among the world's finest cuisine. Everyone on this board knows that I sincerely believe that we are fortunate that such an extraordinary world class experience is available to us here. Roberto is a James Beard Award winner along with receiving four stars from Tom Sietsema in teh Washington Post. At last year's dinner we started as strangers and ended as long time friends. Photos of this are linked below. Photo #34 titled "there was some drinking of wine" has become something of a legend in its time. Discussions of the dinner can be found if you scroll back to November 5th of last year. There were 74 posts about the dinner.

Cost: $150 prix fixe for 14 courses + wine (either
a wine pairing (($70)), wine by the bottle
from the Wine Spectator Grand Award winning
list, by the glass or corkage ($15) or other
beverage + tax + tip.

Incredibly, the thirty seats are already filled from those who attended last year, a number who were at the Maestro dinner in February and several others who privately e-mailed after reading about these. I am taking a waiting list as well as recording e-mails for future dinners such as Maestro and perhaps, CitiZen which opens in September at the Mandarin Oriental. Last year there were about 15 people on the waiting list for Laboratorio. Approximately five or six were able to fill in for several who had to cancel.

There is a chance for this year's Lab dinner based on that experience.

Please contact me directly at my e-mail address listed above. Chowhound is extremely giving to allow us to use this board for the announcement (and later discussion of the dinner). I do not want to tie the board up.

I should note that all of this started because of a post late last summer about someone wanting an opinion about Laboratorio. With so many having our own strong opinions it seemed a good time to meet and share.

Thank you,

Joe Heflin
