Ever go into a hole-in-the wall and see the cooks eating something that looks and smells delicious, and you know there's no way it's on the menu?
That happened to me today. I popped in at our little stripmall Chinese place to buy a container of white rice for a neighbor. ( I've long since dispaired of getting anything good there.) There was a young cook eating a lunch of beautiful jook, with a side of mushrooms. I sideled over and asked if it was possible to buy some. He asked the owner in Chinese, and she motioned me over. Come at 1:30 another day. And so I will. I'll report back "another day". Pat
