Last night I took a date to an Italian joint on Avenue A that makes a pretty good gnocchi con quattro formaggi. Tonight at the same exact time I had a craving for the same dish. (Is there a term for this? "Deja food"?)
I didn't feel like hauling myself all the way over to Alphabet City, however, so I phoned in an order of gnocchi with a side of beef carpaccio. Amazingly, the owner himself trekked all the way over to my apartment (I live a mile to the west), in the snow, to bring me my food. I eat there every few months but I wouldn't call myself a regular.
I'm not going to mention the restaurant's name, lest anyone think I'm shilling for them, but I was floored by their service nonetheless. So in return, I'd just like to remind everybody to tip your deliverers generously in this weather (even if they're not the owners).
Happy holidays, all!
