Today the crab fleets in California and Oregon reached price agreement with wholesalers to start the season. Yesterday's offer from the fishers was $3.10 per pound. https://wildrivers.lostcoastoutpost.c... Today, Oregon sources are reporting the agreed price is $2.75 per pound for OR and CA https://nbc16.com/news/local/dungenes... . SF Chronicle is saying it's in “high $2 range.”

Yesterday a shy 'hound forwarded the Safeway ad offering whole cooked fresh Dungeness for $6.99/pound, a signal that the solidarity among the fleet was crumbling and an indication of a price settlement soon to follow.

Earlier today, Edible Monterey Bay tweeted:
"Dungeness crab stalemate is cracking in Santa Cruz with two retailers notifying us this morning that they have fresh Dungeness crab from local crabbers. @StaffofLife is selling it steamed for $10.99/pound and H&H Fresh Fish has live crabs—bring a bucket!"

Indeed, today H&H posted on Instagram that it has live local Dungeness at its Santa Cruz shop. However, it will not be bringing them to its farmers markets in the Bay Area yet. The "How Much Is Crab?" photo is from its IG stories:
"Prices are starting high as we are giving our fishermen top dollar.
Regular: $13/lb
Jumbo: $14/lb (2+ lb)
Flawed: $12/lb"

Also in Santa Cruz, Stagnaro Brothers posted on FB that it has local crabs. $11.95 cooked or $10.95 live.

For other availability, the Chron said, "San Francisco Crab Boat Owners Association President John Barnett confirmed to The Chronicle via text message Friday afternoon. He expects local crab fleets to begin setting up gear Monday and whole cooked crab to be available to locals by next Friday.. ." https://www.sfchronicle.com/food/arti...

However, on KCBS today, "Half Moon Bay crab fisherman Don Marshall said fisherman and processors are 'very close' to a price agreement, and some fishers have already set their traps in hopes that they’ll be able to sell them soon." https://www.radio.com/kcbsradio/news/... So though the FishLine app is not showing any Dungeness direct from boats at this moment, there's a chance we'll see some live crabs available at local ports this weekend. The "organized start" agreement is not being observed by all.

When you spot live local Dungeness crab at retail, please kick off the annual, 2021 season's price watch posting for the San Francisco Bay Area.
