Welcome to the nomination thread for May 2017 Dish of the Month!
If you’re new here, or if you just want a refresher, please read the **starred** notes, at the end of this post, about what constitutes a dish, and about our prior dishes.
While you continue to prepare amazing adobo (https://www.chowhound.com/post/adobo-...), let's plan what to cook in May. In the spirit of DOTM, please always consider expanding and enhancing your cooking experiences. What have you always wanted to try making? What dishes utilize a technique you’d like to learn? Be courageous! Be adventuresome! That’s what DOTM is all about.
Have a look at the master list to see which dishes we cooked over the years - https://www.chowhound.com/post/links-....
Everyone is invited to join in and help decide what we'll be cooking in May. If you’re new here, or you’ve been lurking, please jump right in! Nominate a dish, ask questions, feel welcome!
To nominate a dish, please type it in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. If you want to second a nomination someone else made, please also type that dish in all caps. We will be counting all dishes entered in capitals. So if you want to discuss a dish that you’ve already nominated, please type in lower case after your initial entry. You can nominate as many dishes as you like. Nominations will be open until 6pm EDT on Wednesday, April 26th. Once the nominations are tallied, we’ll move on to the voting round, where each person will only have one vote.
**What Makes a Dish**
A dish is loosely defined as an ingredient and a method of preparation. So while chocolate is not a dish, chocolate mousse is a dish. It doesn’t have to be terribly specific, you don’t have to say “tomatoes chopped and simmered over low heat then puréed and poured into a bowl,” you can just nominate “tomato soup.” For some dishes, both the ingredients and the technique are implied, such as cassoulet or jambalaya.
**Prior DOTM Dishes**
DOTM has been going strong for over four years now, and we have covered 50+ different dishes! You can view the index of dishes here: and https://www.chowhound.com/post/links-...
You are invited to make any of these dishes, and contribute to these threads at any time - we all love it when an old thread pops up with a new comment, always a treat!
