2 L.A. hounds need your assistance (again)

I have made requests for past trips and always received extremely helpful advice (last trip, my SO and I went to La Folie and Delfina - wow). So here I go again.

I have read many, many posts, but I still have 2 unresolved questions:

My friend and I are coming up for the weekend in 3 wks. I am trying to plan 2 great dinners in 2 different type of restaurants:

1) Much like my last trip, I want a blowout dinner one of the nights. Candidates are Fifth Floor and Masa's. Fleur de Lys looked too romantic, and Jardiniere for some reason did not look as good as Fifth Floor and Masa's (correct me if I'm wrong). Though this night the priority is food first, I don't want anything too stuffy, so take that into consideration. Btw, we could not get a reservation at Gary Danko. 2 months ahead of time - wow, like the French Laundry.

2) The other night we want something more laid-back. We are in our 20s and do appreciate trendy/scene-y, but that is definitely not the 1st priority. Just a consideration. I adore Delfina but want to try something else. Nominees are Tablespoon, bacar, Cortez, and Piperade. I wondered about Alma and some others but thought I would just suggest these 4. For some of these, maybe b/c they are so new, there seemed to be little info on this board. Can you help us decide? If there is something I've just totally overlooked, please suggest it.

We are cabbing everywhere so no worries about parking. By the way, can I just say I envy y'all immensely? Your restaurant options are just amazing.

Thanks in advance!
