*Banana Leaf on Denman - superlative in every way. Chicken & beef satay, roti canai, beef redang, eggplant w/ dried shrimp, coconut rice w/ tumeric. All brilliant. A charming little room, and very warm service.
*Latte at Caffe Artigiano. The first day I wondered why people would stand in such a long line. The second day I smartened up and stood in line. Wow. I haven't had coffee this good since years ago in Florence. Such a civilizing experience.
*BC's white wines are really good. I especially enjoyed a Mission Hill Pinot Blanc.
*(File under: Hey, it was late, I was tired) Believe it or not, the bar at the Marriott downtown serves a very nice ceasar salad. (no anchovies, but a truly excellent freshly-made dressing)
*The market at Granville Island was a highlight in general. One could spend all day there.
*Bin 941 looked terrific. We stopped there for a drink after dinner, so I didn't eat, but watched one beautiful dish after another being served. I would have gone for the mussels. Great atmosphere too.
*I heard raves about the Stock Market (a soup stand) at GI, and I tried the smoked salmon chowder, but I personally found it gelatinous. I guess I'm accustomed to creamy chowders. The Stock Market appears to be popular so I'd like to try it again.
*I wasn't a fan of True Confections.
*I had two terrible breakfasts at neighborhood places in the downtown area, so I'll have to do better research on that topic before next time ;)
