1st Trip to NO - Please give recommendations on a decent hotel and other plans

pfox | Mar 26, 200208:44 AM     17

My husband and I will be spending May 10 - 13 in New Orleans - the choices of hotels is a little overwhelming . . . would like to stay near the French Quarter, at least close enough to walk but far enough away to get some sleep! Am considering the Ambassador, the Hampton Inn in the Garden District and the Omni (good rates on the internet)- What about parking? Are all the hotels valet? Would also like to try a couple of good restaurants (we like not-too- spicy food, seafood, italian, a good steak)and a jazz brunch for Mother's Day . . . please point us in the right direction - Many thanks!!
