1st time to SF - solo dining and good lunches

MyNextMeal | Jun 20, 200611:37 AM     5

Hi - headed to SF for the first time on a business trip and I have a few questions...

1. Staying at the HolidayInn at VanNess/Pine. Are there any good (somewhat fast) lunch spots near that area? Bentos, noodles, anything other than subway.

2. SFWEEKLY Restaurant Guide. How good are the reviews? Do they EVER write anything unfavorable about a restaurant? The little blurbs all seem to GLOW with praise.

3. Solo dining. I'm likely the lone food enthusiast amongst my colleagues. Any solo-friendly dine-@-the-bar restaurant recommendations would be welcome. Esp for Sunday night.

As for my palate, I pretty much eat everything. Ethnic, meat, vegetarian, fish, seafood. Would prefer places with an emphasis on small plates so I can sample more. Budget would be $40ish with wine for a great dinner.

Thanks!
