I am baking a cake for my daughter's first birthday party. She will have a frosted muffin or small cupcake, but the other 40 people we're hosting will want real cake. My family has a tradition of making a tweed cake for birthdays with a recipe similar to this (link below). It's a very dense cake, and I usually do 3 8-inch layers. Do you think I can make 3 batches and bake each batch in a 9x13 pan? Alternatively, any suggestions for a cake to feed 40+ people? I'm thinking basic chocolate and / or vanilla (no citrus please). I am looking for a recipe and pan sizes please. Thank you.
