Went to the new location of Saigon Bakery (Mott and Grand). Figured 9:30am Sat I'd beat the crowds but no luck. Half hour later I had the No. 1 saigon $3 special- the warmest, crunchiest, freshest most complex fusion of french Asian, hot, cold, porky, vinegarey, cilantro(ey), pickled carrot, dripping mayo, spicey pate/mystery meat sandwich ever. Beats hell out of any other banh mi place (though I'm going to sample them in SF next week)and gives the Italian food center (my favorite hero place) down the block something to worry about. Took it back to the car where I parked next to a hydrant ($115 ticket). Yummy and worth every penny!
