Looking forward to some brutal honesty and high quality input from all of the CH family. This will be our first time in SF, 2nd to Napa (Prev. did 1 week in Sonoma/Napa in 2006 and tasted about 40 wineries - we spit :) This trip were only gonna do max 4 wineries a day, probably only 3, so will be a very leisurely pace compared to 7-8/day on most trips.
Our background is that we're super serious about all food and wine, from $5 Pho to Alinea and Per Se. Saying we're serious about wine is a massive understatement. It is basically our life.
Goals for the trip are to get some traditionally SF stuff, eg. Chez Panisse, some tasting menus, Saison, Crenn, etc. and some really good Chinese or other authentic asian food.
Onto the partially formed itinerary
Jan. 4 - Fly into OAK, get rental car and go to Napa Valley. Staying just south of St. Helena at Rancho Caymus Inn.
Need dinner ideas.
Have looked at threads and we'll pass on TFL and Meadowood because we're gonna be blowing a ton in SF and Per Se was so disappointing.
Here's where I'm thinking are potential dinners in Napa Valley:
All dinners are subject to change into bottle of wine+snacks from Oakville Grocery.
Jan. 5 -
10 AM Tasting at Dunn
12 - Lunch and tasting at Diamond Creek
1415 - Summit tasting at Pride.
Could throw in Montelena if still interested this day.
We'll have snacks to chill at Pride and maybe have a little picnic if were not full from lunch.
Dinner - I guess up near Calistoga/northern part of valley would be good this night. Suggestions?
Tastings at Phelps, Cliff Lede, Shafer
Breakfast or lunch at Bouchon
Dinner in Yountville/St Helena area
AM tasting TBA
Lunch in Napa, drive back to SF
San Francisco staying downtown in Condo near ballpark.
