This Maverick Wireless Thermometer is basically the gold standard in outdoor grilling and smoking. It’s got one meat probe that monitors the internal temp of whatever you’re cooking, and one surface probe that tells you the ambient temperature. Both of those temps get reported back to you on the remote receiver, which is programmable so you can set an alarm if either temp dips too high or too low. This is invaluable for when you’re doing a long overnight smoke—you can rest easy knowing that you’ll be alerted if anything goes awry (in which case you won’t actually be resting, but it’s better than waking up to a cold, sweaty brisket.) Bonus: though my thermometer didn’t come with these, this edition comes with gadgets called “bear paw meat handlers” which I’ve never used but sound both useful and also maybe scandalous.
