The Evolution of Coca-Cola Bottle and Can Designs

Coca-Cola first introduced a diamond-shaped label in 1906, but as Coke was usually sold from ice-water chests at the time, the label often peeled away from the bottle. Electric refrigeration eventually helped take care of that, but so did packaging innovations, like plastic labels (and bottles) and aluminum cans. The first commercially available cans of Coke appeared in 1960, and they sported diamond-shaped logos too.
