A decade ago, Los Angeles was a brewery wasteland. Sure, there were craft beer bars such as Barbara’s and Lucky Baldwin’s serving up pints of Pliny the Elder and hard-to-find Belgians, but if you asked for something “local,” it would likely come by way of San Diego. Thankfully, that’s no longer the case. Downtown alone is home to over a dozen breweries while the countywide total approaches triple figures. And it’s not just the quantity that’s impressive. From San Pedro to Pomona, these homegrown sensations are racking up accolades and generating excitement amongst the most hardcore of beer geeks thirsty for top tier IPAs, sours, stouts, and everything in between. Narrowing down the best of the best is tough—that’s a good thing!—but here are 10 L.A. breweries that should definitely be on your radar.
