As American as German Chocolate Cake

German chocolate cake, despite the seemingly self-explanatory name, isn't actually German. In fact, it's as all-American as apple pie, and has roots in Dallas, Texas (just like the dessert-worthy frozen margarita, in fact). While chocolate confections are obviously popular all around the world, if you examine German chocolate cake's rich pecan and coconut frosting, it makes sense that it's a Southern thing.
