Serrated knives are great for slicing foods like crusty bread with soft interiors, or foods with a waxy texture on the outside, such as tomatoes, peppers, watermelon, and citrus. The serrated edge helps the blade grip the slippery exterior of some produce. But it's especially for bread. The longer the better or about 8 inches is the length to shoot for. There's no need to shell out a lot of money for bread knives because you can't sharpen them. OXO Good Grips isn't the best-reviewed bread knife, but it does really well in retail shops. The main brands mentioned earlier are the expert favorites.
